Gmail: Sending Email from Gmail as a Google Domains Email

5/26/2017

This gave me so much trouble, and had to dig way down to find it, even though I already have done it before, so I'm putting it here for future reference.
  1. Turn on 2-step verification if you haven't done so already.
  2. Goto your Account -> Signing In -> App Passwords
  3. In the App passwords box, select Mail for the app, select Other for the device.
  4. Enter the name of your domain for the “Other” device, and click Generate.
  5. Goto Gmail settings, Accounts and Import tab.
  6. Click on Add another email address you own
  7. Type name and email address to be added from a domain hosted on Google Domains. (It didn't seem to matter if treat as an alias was checked or not).
  8. For SMTP Server, put smtp.gmail.com
  9. For Username, your full Gmail address including @gmail.com
  10. For password, your App password generated from step 4.
  11. Leave the rest default (TLS, port 587)
  12. Click Add Account
For more details see Google Support - Sending mail from your forwarded email address.

Tip: Shopify + Facebook Ads Conversions - Add Payment Info Event Versus Purchase Event

5/22/2017

This is for Shopify owners who use the Facebook Pixel for conversion campaigns in their Shopify stores, and use the following:
PayPal
Apple Pay
Amazon Payments
You might see a discrepancy in your data concerning purchases when optimizing for conversions that may drive up your ad costs.

Your number of sales may not correlate with how many times the Purchase Event is fired by the Facebook Pixel.

To review, there are 4 main conversion events: View Page then Add to Cart then Checkout then Purchase.

Your goal as a Shopify owner is to get the shopper to the Purchase page event. That doesn't always happen when someone buys, however.

When a shopper uses PayPal, ApplePay, or Amazon Payments, an extra conversion event happens between Checkout and Purchase: The Add Payment Info event which looks like a Loading screen.

This happens because PayPal or whatever service gives you a new page from their website outside of Shopify where you log in to PayPal. When you log in, the transaction completes, and you get a "Thank You" page.

Shoppers may exit out of the "Thank You" page without actually getting to the Purchase event. You still made the sale, but the Facebook Pixel does not capture it.

So if your data does not correlate with the sales you made, you may be driving up ad costs.

However, you still need to optimize and set your conversion goal to be Purchase event as that is what Facebook uses to gauge how likely a person will buy from you.
In short:
1. When a shopper uses Paypal, Amazon Payments, or Apple Pay to make a purchase, the "Add Payment Info" event is fired by the Facebook Pixel, which is an extra page.
2. A shopper will receive a "Thank You" page. Most shoppers will exit out of this page and not get to the "Purchase" event.
3. You still need to optimize and set your goal for the "Purchase" event.

The Tools I Choose To Use

5/22/2017

"Do not wait; the time will never be 'just right.' Start where you stand, and work with whatever tools you may have at your command, and better tools will be found as you go along."

First written 3/7/2016.
In this week of research, I have encountered countless tools by marketers. But since I don't want to end up like the allegory of making/finding a better tool without actually doing something, I'm just going to go out with these:
Email Autoresponder:
Mailchimp

Mailchimp is what I have been using for most of my listbuilding. I have tried out Constant Contact as well, but Mailchimp's simple style is what I like.

Mailchimp now offers FREE Automation! Exactly what I have been waiting for.

(Updated 5/22/17)

Send In Blue
SendInBlue is free and has an unlimited number of contacts. The interface is very clean.

Email Listbuilding: Privy

Surveys: Google Forms

Sales Funnels: Clickfunnels

An all-in-one package, although expensive. I think it's better overall than LeadPages. However, since I haven't launched yet, I will update on that if it works.

Website Builder: Weebly

This is my favorite free website builder so far. Wix is very slow comparatively to Weebly and also less flexible.

E-Commerce: Shopify

I made my first store Merchant of the Universe with Shopify.

Domains:
Google Domains

Google Domains offers $12 per year domain subscription. While pricey for some, it is very clean, and offers quick integration with Gmail addresses.
(Updated 5/22/17)

Freenom

Freenom provides free domains, as its name suggests. I might transfer to another soon, if this experiment works.

Facebook Messenger Bots:
ManyChat

ManyChat offers free automation to unlimited subscribers, except for their Growth Tools.

MSGHero

MSGHero offers unlimited send to Messenger from comments to unlimited pages, unlike ManyChat.

Chatfuel

Chatfuel seems to be a good alternative to ManyChat, except without the ability to send to Messenger from comments, yet.

Other: Nothing else I can think of.

If I find better tools, I will let you know!
